DEATH CLAIMS LELA GIBSON

Lela M. GIBSON, prominent longtime teacher in Fairfield and vicinity, passed away last night at 6:30 p.m. at her home, 204 East Washington street.

She had been in failing health the past year and bedfast since August 1 of this year.

Last rites will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Hoskins funeral home with Dr. C. R. Douglass in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Lela M. GIBSON, 57, was born September 15, 1893, near Libertyville, Iowa, the daughter of Arch B. C. and Anna B. SUTHERLIN McCLEARY. She was reared and educated in Jefferson county.

She was united in marriage on December 25, 1920, to Leo L. GIBSON. He preceded his wife in death on March 31, 1936.

Mrs. GIBSON taught in schools at Fairfield, Libertyville, Pleasant Plain, and in rural schools for 26 years. For many years she was an active member in the Jefferson county Teachers Club, was a member of the O.E.S., the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Presbyterian church.

She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Marjorie MANNING, Batavia; Mrs. Mary Alyce BROOKS, Fairfield; and three grandchildren, Patrick Michael BROOKS, Marilee Sue and Glen Keith MANNING.

Mrs. GIBSON is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. George FARMER, Fairfield; Mrs. Lou FARMER, Hannibal, Missouri; Mrs. Milo HOWE, Montebello, California; Mrs. George ZILLMAN, Fairfield; Mrs. Raymond ANDERSON, Fairfield; Dulcena McCLEARY, Fairfield; and Arch B. McCLEARY, Fairfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John.
