Franklin Dean JARVIS

Franklin Dean JARVIS, age 65, of Fairfield, passed away February 22, 2011 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Libertyville Faith United Methodist Church with Pastor Doug Harding officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Troy Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2011 at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Frank Jarvis Memorial for Jefferson County Park or a memorial presence at Old Threshers.

Frank was born on April 4, 1945 in Branch, Iowa to Irene LaRue ARNOLD and James Isaac JARVIS. He married Karen L. BROCKUS on May 8, 1966 in Lancaster, Missouri.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1963-1967, worked as a machinist and in maintenance at Rockwell and Arvin Meritor, retiring in 2000, he began working out of his own machine shop at home doing odd jobs and some machining. Frank owned and operated steam engines for many years. In 2010 his Nichols & Shepard Steam Engine was selected as the Engine of the Year at Old Threshers. His son, Jesse, operates a 1:3 scale model Advanced Rumley Steam Engine that they built together. He helped build the Libertyville Faith United Methodist Church, enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, restoring antique tractors and gas engines and spending time with his family, especially his grandson Levi.

Frank is survived by his wife: Karen JARVIS, 1 son: Jesse JARVIS and fiancée Amanda HECKART, 1 grandson: Levi JARVIS all of Fairfield and 4 brothers: Otis of Hiawatha, Oren of Troy, Otto of Cedar Rapids and Olen of Milton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son: James Franklin JARVIS, 1 sister: Beulah ARCHER and 2 brothers: Oris and Ron JARVIS.
