STANFORD Rites Will Be Friday

Funeral services will be Friday at the Raymond Funeral Home for Mrs. Maude STANFORD, former Fairfield resident who died today at Moline, Ill.

The service Friday will be at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Wilson Hyde officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery (sic. Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield, Jefferson county, Iowa).

Mrs. STANFORD died at 3 a.m. today at Oak Glen Nursing Home in Moline (sic. Moline, Rock Island county, Illinois). She had been seriously ill the past three months.

Maude STANFORD, 83, was born near Abingdon in Jefferson County Jan. 14, 1888. She was the daughter of Banning and Elizabeth WALKER DeGOOD. She was reared and educated in Jefferson County.

Her marriage to Lloyd STANFORD took place Sept. 25, 1906, at Mount Pleasant (sic. in Henry county, Iowa). He died in 1953.

Mrs. STANFORD was a member of the United Methodist Church and while in Fairfield her home was at 204 E. Madison. She moved to Rock Island 16 years ago.

Survivors include three sons, Merl, Lockridge; Rex., Rock Island; and Glen, Fairfield; three daughters, Mrs. Helen ADAM, Strawn, Ill.; Mrs. Gladys VAN PATTEN, Hackensack, N.J.; and Mrs. Gene REIGER, Forest, Ill.; eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Also one brother, Paul DeGOOD, Wichita, Kan.; and one sister, Mrs. Mildred CORBETT, Hollister, Mo., survive.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. STANFORD was preceded in death by one son, two grandchildren, five brothers and sisters.

Contributor note: The original birth record on file at the Jefferson county Recorder's office was entered as "female DeGood". On August 19th, 1953 the entry was clarified by deputy clerk V.M. JOHNSTON to be "Mary Maude DeGood". In consultation with a DeGood family descendant, Sandy KELLY, it is likely that this name change was prompted by the death of Walter Lloyd Stanford the previous month and to collect survivors benefits the birth name needed clarification.
