Rodney 'Rod' CARY

Rodney "Rod" CARY, 55, of West Burlington, died at 8:38 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, with the Rev. Jackie Bradford officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursdy at the chapel, with Masonic Rites conducted at 5:30 p.m., followed by family visitation until 8 p.m.

Mr. CARY was born June 14, 1955, the son of Duaine L. and Mildred E. TEDROW CARY. He married Beth SNAKENBERG HELMICK May 4, 1996, in West Burlington.

Mr. CARY was a graduate of West Burlington High School and University of Iowa School of Journalism. As a teenager, his first job was working at Hagerla's Market. While in high school, he was the announcer for West Burlington High School sports events. He went on to become a disc jockey and the "Morning Show" host with KBUR for 28 years. He also hosted "The Drive" for KCPS. He was a past announcer for the Burlington Bees and had traveled to Portland, Ore., to announce for the Beavers Minor Baseball Team.

Mr. CARY was a member of West Burlington United Methodist Church, Malta Lodge No. 318 AF&AM, DeMolay and Salvation Army. He was a past member of the Burlington Kiwanis Club.

He was a Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He loved everything about the royal family and his family.

Survivors include his wife; two children, Josh HELMICK and wife Jenny of Burlington and Jackie BERNAND of Burlington; six grandchildren; one brother, Jeffrey CARY of Burlington; and three aunts, including Maxine TEDROW of Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
