Page 1, Column 1L. J. OERTEL DIES SUDDENLY THIS MORNING
Lorne J. OERTEL, 35, well known Fairfield business man died this morning at 4:00 o’clock (sic) in the Sunnyslope Hospital near Ottumwa. He was taken there last Thursday.
Mr’ (sic) OERTEL was born May 27, 1900, in Noville, Ia., and resided at 104 West Hempstead street in Fairfield. He was the owner of the Fairfield Electrical Company, located on North Court street in Fairfield.
He is survived by his wife, his mother Mrs. Hattie VAUER, one sister Miss Veyra OERTEL, and his grandmother all of Noville.
Mr. OERTEL attended the Iowa State college at Ames, during the World War and was a member of the Reserve Officers Training Corps.
At one time he worked for an electrical house in Nevada, and later moved to Burlington. When the Bernick Inc., of Oskaloosa, opened a branch office in Fairfield 1925, Mr. OERTEL came here as the manager. Later Mr. and Mrs. James Turner and Mr. ORTEL (sic) bought the business under the firm name of the “Fairfield Electrical Company.” In January of 1930 Mr. OERTEL purchased the Turner interest, and has since operated the business here. Mrs. OERTEL was associated in the business with him.
Mr. OERTEL married Miss Edith HOSLER of Veo, April 4, 1926. They had met at the Iowa State college.
Mrs. OERTEL is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V. A. HOSLER of Veo.
Mr. OERTEL was a member of the First Methodist church, the Rotary club, the American Legion, The Modern Woodmen of America and the Walton club.
Funeral arrangements are not yet completed, pending word from relatives. The body was taken to the Murray funeral home in this city where friends may call after noon on Wednesday.

Note: Edith was born three days after Lorne, and died in 1982. They are buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, in Lot 3rd.062½.
