DEATH TAKES MRS. MAXWELL

Well Known Fairfield Resident Died Following Long Illness

Mrs. Christena MAXWELL, widow of H. C. MAXWELL, passed away at the home of her son, Ray MAXWELL, 107 West Adams street at 5 o’clock last evening. She had been in failing health for sometime and seriously ill several weeks.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon from the Ray MAXWELL home in charge of Dr. U. S. Smith. Interment in Evergreen cemetery. Friends may call at the Murray Funeral Home Sunday morning.

Mrs. MAXWELL was born November 15, 1846 on a farm one mile north of Fairfield. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George KAUFFMAN and spent practically her entire life in Jefferson county. She was preceded in death by her husband, June 16, 1922; one son, Sherman died in infancy, Arthur passed away October 2, 1929 and Earl died June 6, 1932. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Nellie B. LOVING of Bell, Calif., Clayton MAXWELL of Hiram, Ark.; Harley MAXWELL of Joliet, Ill. and Ray of this city.

SERVICES FOR MRS. MAXWELL

Dr. U. S. Smith Officiated At Last Rites; Burial In Evergreen

Funeral services for Mrs. Christena MAXWELL, who passed away Friday evening at the home of her son, Ray MAXWELL, were held at two o’clock yesterday afternoon, from the MAXWELL home, 107 West Adams street. Dr. U. S. Smith of the First Methodist church officiated at the services.

Two of Mrs. MAXWELL’s favorite songs, ‘One Sweetly Solemn Thought” and “Shall We Gather at the River,” were sung by Paul Coleson, J. H. Stuckey, Mrs. H. M. Bryant and Mrs. Frank Pierson, the latter accompanying the group.

The casket was banked with many beautiful flowers sent by friends and relatives. The pall bearers were Paul Jenks, Paul Prince, W. H. Nott, Will Evens, Cecil Myers and John McIntire. Burial was made in Evergreen cemetery.

Those from a distance who attended the services were: Mrs. Ruth Stackhouse and daughter Jane and Mr. Tucker of Marshalltown, Mrs. Elizabeth MAXWELL of Dixon, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Barney of Seymour.

Note: Christena KAUFFMAN was married to Harvey Clayton MAXWELL who died in 1922. They are buried in Lot 3rd.041.
