Page TWO, Column 6MANY ATTENDED SERVICES FOR HARRY ELDER
Eight members of Ottumwa fire department present to pay respects"There is only one step between me and death" was the passage from Scripture which Dr. E. A. Piper chose as his text as he conducted the last rites for Harry ELDER yesterday afternoon.
He likened the death of the well known Fairfield citizen to that passage of Scripture found in First Samuel, chapter 20, third verse.
"Those words were spoken by David, as he was being pursued by King Saul," Dr. Piper remarked. "As he was certain that death would overtake him soon."
"Those same words apply to us today, even though we do not know when death will overtake us, or know when to expect it, as David did," Dr. Piper continued.
Harry ELDER passed away Wednesday morning after undergoing an emergency operation for appendicitis early Saturday morning. He was recently elected Worthy President of the Eagles Lodge (sic - Aerie) and was also a member of the Elks Lodge. He had been employed at the Bradshaw furniture company for the past 17 years.
