OBITUARY

Mrs. Emma DOUGHTY

Emma Maud was the youngest of eight children of Mr. and Mrs. Simon P. HAIFLEY, born Feb. 1, 1871 at Trenton, Iowa and it was there she spent her childhood and early girlhood days, when but seventeen years of age she was united in marriage to Mark T. DOUGHTY of this county, October 10, 1888 and the home has been in Jefferson county except for short periods. She was the mother of six children all of whom survive except Harry who died at the tender age of 6 months December 21, 1893. Her sorrowing children are Calvin H. of Long Beach, Calif., who on account of distance was unable to attend the last sad rites. Mamie, Glenn, Mrs. Marie CAMPBELL, all of Fairfield and Ralph of Pontiac, Michigan, also three grandchildren, Lois, Roger and Marilyn CAMPBELL who were the idols of her heart. Two sorrowing sisters are left with sweet memories of their dear sister passed on, Mrs. Alice DAVIS of Parkston, South Dakota, who was unable to come on account of ill health and Mrs. Fannie ERNST of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, who with her husband and family attended the services. Mrs. DOUGHTY’s mother passed away thirty one years ago at the age of ninety-two. The two deceased sisters, Mrs. Anna KIENTZ of Fairfield and Mrs. Minnie PENCE of Bryant, Indiana.

Mrs. DOUGHTY's sudden demise came as a great shock to her loved ones and also to her many friends as they were legion. Once her friend always her friend, being of those tried and true and never found wanting. The writer speaks from forty three years experience. She was always a lover of home, her children were her jewels and her beautiful flowers and birds she gave much attention.

Death is at all times sald and doubly so when the Mother and home-maker is taken and this was indeed true when Mrs. Emma DOUGHTY was so suddenly and unexpectedly called to her reward. She had not been in good health this winter, her final illness was of only ten days duration. In the early morning hour of February 24th, 1931 she suffered a stroke of apoplexy while her daughter, Mamie, who had always been her constant companion, was preparing medicine for her. The dear one without pain or discomfort passed from this world which has been made better and brighter for her presence, into that bourne from which no wanderer returneth. So sudden and yet it was one of her great desires left that her last illness might be of short duration and it seems as if her desire was granted. Only a few short months ago she made the remarks to friends "That now the children had all reached manhood and womanhood and all were affiliated with the church and now she had did about all she could do." No doubt but what she had a prenomination that soon all would be over. Being of a sunny disposition time had dealt gently with her. She was a woman of refinement, possessing a pleasing personality and a social frankness that her friends always admired. She was a member of the Methodist church for many years and affiliated with Royal Neighbors, Rebekaks (sic) and Legion Auxiliary.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 Thursday afternoon at the Murray Funeral Home in charge of Rev. S. P. Williamson. The Royal Neighbors had charge of the services at the grave. Interment was made in the Evergreen cemetery.
