OBITUARY

LAURA A. GREEN

Laura A. GREEN, daughter of Wesley and Platina GREEN, was born in Jefferson county, Iowa, in the Rickwoods (sic) community, on Feb. 26, 1844, and departed this life at her home 5½ miles southeast of Fairfield, January 20, 1934 at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 24 days.

She was the oldest of eight children, of which two sisters, three brothers and her parents preceded her in death. Her early life was spent at home, where she grew to womanhood. She attended the Richwood's school and later taught one term there. Her mother's death ended her career as a school teacher and she took up the duties of the home for her father.

On November 18, 1875, she was united in marriage to Loren CLARK and they settled in the Bethesda neighborhood, where they both lived until the Savior called for them. This home was blessed with five children, one of whom died at infancy. Mrs. CLARK was a wonderful mother, patient and kind, always looking on the bright side of life. She kept her life beautiful with sunshine and good will to all she knew. On April 11, 1933, she was stricken and spent much of the time confined to her bed, but never a word of complaint, and the last few days when her suffering was so intense, she was patient and truly portrayed a Christ-like spirit.

Mrs. CLARK was converted at the age of 16 and united with the Richwoods Methodist church. After her marriage she transferred her membership to the Bethesda Methodist church. Here she was the organist for many years. Her heart was in the work of the church, it held a commanding place in her life, and so long as she was able she attended the means of grace with religious fervor.

She leaves to mourn her death three sons, C. W. CLARK, Roy L. CLARK of Fairfield, Ia., and Clarence M. CLARK of Portland, Ore. One daughter, Estella CLARK, of Fairfield. Three grandchildren, Doris, Florence and Loren CLARK, two brothers, Perry O. GREEN of Mankato, Kansas, and Charles W. GREEN of Fairfield. Besides other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at the Hoskins Funeral Home in Fairfield, in charge of Rev. John C. Porath and Rev. G. W. Pool. Miss Cora Ball sang two numbers, "Nearer My God To Thee," and "Jesus Lover of My Soul." The pall bearers were Elmer Groves, David Bush, Victor Root, Dallas Green, Frank McCormick and Elmer Davis all of Beckwith, and close friends of the CLARK family.

There were many beautiful flowers sent by the relatives and friends, and many attended the services.

She was laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery beside her husband who preceded her in death.
