Josephine M. BAILEY

Josephine M. BAILEY, a long time resident of Pleasant Plain, passed away at the Jefferson county hospital, Sunday morning, Oct. 18, 1942, at 8:17 a.m. She had been in failing health for the past year and had been seriously ill the past eight weeks.

Last rites were held at the St. Mary’s Catholic church in Fairfield on Tuesday morning at 9 a.m., October 20. High mass was conducted by the Rev. Fr. Thoman, assisted by Fr. Wetzstein, pastor of the St. Joseph church in East Pleasant Plain of which she was a member for many years. The pall-bearers were nephews, Paul PRINCE, Glenn PRINCE, A. R. KELLER, all of Fairfield, Gaston DROZ, Vern HOSETTE and Lester WORKMAN, all of Stockport. Interment was in the Evergreen cemetery.

Josephine M. HOSETTE was born in Jefferson county, March 28, 1872, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Xavier HOSETTE. She was united in marriage to the late Dr. C. M. BAILEY, May 18, 1900. They established their home in Pleasant Plain and lived in happy companionship until the husband and father was suddenly taken on Oct. 10, 1932 (sic - 1931). One son came to bless this union, Earl E., who has lived in California for a number of years.

Mrs. BAILEY loved her home and her family, was a kind neighbor and a good friend. She was a patient sufferer for the past year, ever hopeful of being better. Since her husband’s death, she had spent several winters with her son in California and she hoped to be able to spend one more, but when she realized the end was near she was willing and happy to go. Her son came from California to be with her, but due to war conditions was not permitted to stay until her passing.

Mrs, BAILEY was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a brother, C. L. HOSETTE, of Stockport, and a half-brother, J. E. PRINCE of Fairfield. Those who remain to mourn her passing are: Mr. and Mrs. Earl E. BAILEY and son Bobby of Santa Barbara, Calif., a half-sister, Mrs. Mary DROZ of Cedar township, and a number of other relatives and friends who will greatly miss her.
