Mary Elizabeth COWGUILL CLARK

Mary Elizabeth COWGUILL CLARK, 90, of Mesa, Ariz., and formerly of Rockwell City and Packwood, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, in Mesa.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Angels Cremation & Burials is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. CLARK was born Oct. 20, 1920, in Fairfield, the daughter of Jesse and Hazel MOORMAN COWGUILL. She married Clive V. CLARK of Brighton in 1941.

Mrs. CLARK graduated from Packwood High School in 1938 and attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant.

During World War II, while her husband served in the United States Coast Guard in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands, Mrs. CLARK worked at the National Bank in Glendale, Calif., and at the Gas Rationing Board in Galveston, Texas.

In 1946, the CLARKs moved to Rockwell City, where they purchased the former Wilson Grocery, which was later moved to Highway 20 and operated as Clark's Super Market for more than 60 years.

Mrs. CLARK was a member of Rockwell City United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, HOA Club and Rockwell City Study Club.

The CLARKs enjoyed attending the many school sports and musical events in which their children and grandchildren participated and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Clive V. CLARK Jr. and wife Julie of Rockwell City and John CLARK of Lincoln, Neb.; one daughter, Jane COMBELLICK of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two sisters, Margaret BRUST of Ramona, Calif., and Ruth GROSS of Claremont, Calif.; one brother, Jay COWGUILL of Packwood; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
