OBITUARY

MRS. ALVA HENDRICKS

Grace Mabel MULINIX, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe MULINIX, and wife of Alva HENDRICKS, was born Dec. 13, 1890, in Jefferson county, and died of pneumonia at her home near Lockridge, Ia. Thursday morning, Mar. 1, 1934, aged 43 years, 2 months and 15 days.

She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, 8 children, Harold, Roscoe, Mrs. Pauline HAYNES, Marie, Edward, Raymond, Darlene, and Victor and one grandson, all at home except Mrs. HAYNES who resides at Mt. Zion and Roscoe of Fairfield. She also leaves her aged parents Mr. and Mrs. Joe MULINIX of Free Soil, Mich., and the following brothers and sisters, Jess MULINIX of St. Joseph, Mo.; Harry MULINIX of Cedar Rapids, Ia.; James MULINIX of Hamburg, Is.; Mrs. Lulu TWEEDY of Libertyville; Mrs. Eva HESS of Cleveland, O; and Ray and Roy MULINIX of Alliance, Neb. One sister, Nellie, preceded her in death.

She was ever ready to lend a helping hand to those in need among her friends and community. She was a member of the Methodist church at Birmingham and was a kind and devoted mother, always working for the best interests of her home and family.

Funeral service were held at the Hoskins Funeral Home Saturday, Mar. 1, at 1:30 p.m. in charge of Rev. Fred G. Crown and Mrs. William Stever beautifully sang "No Night There," and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." Pallbearers were five nephews, Robert and Joe TWEEDY, Lyle and Joe MULINIX and Donald CANADY, and one brother-in-law, Lloyd HARBIN. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery.

Note: Although the obituary states that Grace was buried in Evergreen cemetery in Fairfield, she was actually buried in Old Fairfield City cemetery in Lot 145. There are several ADKINS burials on that lot, but it isn't clear what, if any, relationship they would be to Grace. Her husband, Alva HENDRICKS, is buried in Evergreen cemetery in 4th.051, which has several TWEEDY family burials.

Also, the obituary uses the surname "MULINIX", while other Jefferson county genealogy sources use "MULLENIX". Not sure how to reconcile these two variations.

The following is from an obituary clipping that was provided to this contributor for posting. The source of the publication could not be located but it appears to have been published on the date of her death. It uses the "MULLENIX" surname spelling, it should be noted:

Mrs. HENDRICKS Dies of Pneumonia Near Lockridge

Lockridge, March 1 (Special) - Mrs. Grace Mabel HENDRICKS 42-year-old wife of Alva HENDRICKS, died at her home three miles northwest of here today, after a week's illness with pneumonia. The body was removed to the Hoskins Funeral Home in Fairfield.

She leaves the following children, Alva and Roscoe of Fairfield, Mrs. Pauline HAYNES of Mt. Zion, and Mamie, Edward, Raymond, Darlene and Victor all at home. She also leaves one grandson, Vernon LeRoy HAYNES.

Mrs. HENDRICKS was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph MULLENIX of Freesaw (sic. surname spelling differs from Fairfield Ia. Daily Ledger account), Mich. She leaves the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Charles TWEEDY of Libertyville; James MULLENIX of Hamberg; Harry MULLENIX of Cedar Rapids; Jef. MULLENIX of St. Joseph, Mo. (sic. Jess in the Fairfield Ia. Daily Ledger account); Ray and Raymond MULLENIX of Lincoln, O.; and Mrs. Eva HESS of Cleveland, O.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.
