MRS. C. HARWOOD DIED SUNDAY

Wife of rural mail carrier succumbs after long illness

Mrs. Clay HARWOOD, 42, wife of a well-known Jefferson county rural mail carrier, passed away Sunday evening about 6:55 o'clock at the University Hospital in Iowa City. She had been a patient at the University Hospital for 21 days, having undergone an operation.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Weston Behner Funeral Home. Rev. Kenneth Erickson will be in charge. Burial will be in the Abingdon cemetery.

Mrs. HARWOOD was born January 12, 1898 in Oklahoma, the daughter of William and Addie STRAW. She had been a resident of Fairfield for the past 21 years, and was an active member of the Foursquare church.

Surviving are her husband, Clay HARWOOD, and ten children, Lafe, Robert, Charles, Dale, Dorothy, Francis, Kathryn, Ruth, Beverly, and Carolyn. One son Kenneth preceded her in death in 1936.

Note: Buried at Abingdon Cemetery. Her maiden name is noted as STRAW here, but in other sources has been found to be STRAUS or WALKER. Use some caution when researching this individual.
