"Hepsy HOWARD HOAG, Pleasant Plain. Born in Vermillion County, Ill. Oct 19 1832, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. E. PICKARD in Marshalltown, Iowa, in her 85th year. Daughter of John and Susannah HOWARD who moved from Illinois to near Pleasant Plain in an early day. Was reared on the farm and at Pleasant Plain; married Enoch HOAG on June 15 1859. They made their home in Muscatine until 1869, when Mr. HOAG entered the government Indian service. . . . .was in the government service eight years and was stationed at Lawrence, Kan. They continued to live there until 1881 when they moved to Mr. HOAG's native state, New Hampshire. At Sandwich, N.H., Mr. HOAG died June 14 1894. . . . .Both were lifelong members of the Friends church and both were recorded ministers of that church. Surviving are a stepson, Edward F. HOAG of Muscatine, Iowa; a daughter, Mrs. E. J. MOORE of Fresno, Calif., and a son, William P., and a daughter, Emma PICKARD of Marshalltown; also five sisters, Emeline TUTTLE of Glenmore, La.; Sarah HOOVER and Anna ALDRICH of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Martha NICHOLSON of Bangor, Iowa. Body was brought to Pleasant Plain for burial in the Howard family lot in the Friends Cemetery. . . . ."

DEATHS

HOAG -- Hepsy HOAG, a minister and a much esteemed and beloved member of Marshalltown, Iowa, meeting of Friends, died of pneumonia, January 11, 1917, at the age of eighty five years. She was the widow of Enoch HOAG who was the general superintendent of the Indian service during President Grant's administration. She was the daughter of John HOWARD, of Pleasant Plain, Iowa, for may years a faithful minister of Friends Church. Hers was a most beautiful Christian character. Her constant smile and tender words offered a real benediction of divine love and heart fellowship. Since 1897 she had made her home with her daughter, Emma PICKARD. Surviving her, are her daughter Emma and son William P. HOAG of Marshalltown, a daughter, Mrs. E. J. MOORE, of Clovis, California, also a step-son Edward F. HOAG, of Muscatine, Iowa. The following sisters are still living: Mrs. Emeline TUTTLE of Glenmore, Louisanna (sic), Sarah HOOVER and Anna ALDRICH, both of Oskaloosa, Iowa. Martha NICHOLSON, of Superior, Nebraska and Mary NICHOLSON, of Bangor, Iowa. Impressive funeral services were held at the Friends churches at Marshalltown and Pleasant Plain, the body being taken to the latter place for burial, where she was laid beside her father.
