"The Brighton News mentions the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Hiatt of Penn township on the 27th ult. Deceased was a daughter of William Pickerel, who came to Iowa in 1839 and built one of the first mills on Skunk river on the site of what is now the Brighton mills."
