"John FUQUA died last night aged 90 years. Bur. Friends Cemetery, Pleasant Plain. Born Oct 31 1836 in Blunt County, Tenn. . . . married Miss Nancy Rebecca KOONTZ Mar. 4 1863; she died about 25 years ago. Five children: Thomas who died a few years ago at Pleasant Plain; Charles, whose home is in Usk, Washington; Frank of Fairfield; Mrs. Will CARSE of near Salina, and Scott of Spokane, Washington. Mrs. M. J. STANTON of Walla Walla, Wash., is his only remaining sister."

OBITUARY

John FUQUA

John FUQUA was born in Lunt county (sic - Blount Co.), Tenn., Oct. 31, 1836, and passed away May 11, 1927 aged 90 years, 5 months and 11 days.

When a small boy the family moved to Springfield, Mo., but when the Civil war broke out, being Union sympathizers, moved to Jefferson county, Iowa. Mr. FUQUA was unable to join the army, having a broken collar bone.

He was married to Miss Nancy Rebecca KOONTZ, March 4, 1863, who preceded him in death several years ago. Five children were born to this union:: Tomas who passed away at his home in Pleasant Plain a few years ago; Charles of Usk, Wash.; Scott of Spokane, Wash.; Mrs. Will CARSE of near Salina, Ia.; and Frank of Fairfield. He also leaves six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. M. J. STANTON of Walla Walla, Wash. He also leaves a host of friends who will mourn his passing.

When a young man Mr. FUQUA united with the United Brethren church and remained faithful until the last.

Funeral services were held in the Friends church in Pleasant Plain at 2 oclock p.m. May 13, conducted by Rev. Harvey Moon. Interment was made in the Friends cemetery.

Miss Pearl Wycoff and Mrs. Ethel Hedge, accompanied by Mrs. Margaret Schafer sang "Jesus Lover Of My Soul," "Gathering Home" and "Rock of Ages." Pall bearers were Jasper Lynn, Clayton Turner, Calvin Hoskins, Elex Pickard, Thomas Humphrey and Allan Crumley.
