OBITUARY

Addie L. RIPLEY was born in South Montville, Waldo county, Me., December 4th, 1853, where she grew to womanhood. Her father died when she was but sixteen, leaving the care of younger children to the mother and her. She taught school and hired a farm hand with her wages, enabling her mother to keep the family together. Failing health in 1880 compelled her to leave her native state for Iowa and she had since resided at Lockridge. She was married to Alexander Hopkirk April 26th, 1883. Three children came to bless their home, Nellie M., Raymond A. and Lura Bess (sic. a/k/a Bessie L.), all living. Since November 12th, 1901, Mrs. HOPKIRK had been with friends in California, hoping the mild climate would relieve her of asthma, from which she had been a great sufferer. She was returning home much improved and full of hope for the future. While in Kansas City she was exposed to measles, which, with asthma, proved fatal. She passed away April 22d, just twelve days after reaching home. Though suffering much, her whole life was devoted to her husband and children in a supreme effort to make home happy. Uniting with the Free Baptist church early in life, she faithfully and humbly followed her Lord. Her outward life reflected the inward faith that grew brighter and brighter. When absent her thoughts were of loved ones. Are they well and do they love the Savior seemed to by the ever present thought. Home is dark and desolate to the stricken family, but its members "sorrow not as those who have no hope," and look for a reunion beyond.

The family wishes to express its thanks to the kind friends and neighbors for their timely assistance and sympathy in its bereavement.
