Died from Blood Poison.

On November 5th John CAMPBELL and his brother were chopping in the timber near Brookville. An axe wielded by the latter flew off its handle, the blade striking John on the right knee and inflicting a painful and ugly wound. A surgeon was called soon after the injury, but in spite of all he could do the wound would not heal. For three weeks or more the injured man has been steadily growing weaker, and blood poison manifested its presence very plainly. CAMPBELL suffered great pain and finally died on Sabbath morning. His age was about 35 years and he had long lived in the vicinity of Brookville. The remains were brought to this city Monday morning and interred in the city cemetery.

[Note: Although the city cemetery is noted as the burial place in this obituary, John was buried in Evergreen Cemetery... adjacent to the Old Fairfield City Cemetery but a separate burial ground. He is in Lot Old.P.118. It should also be noted that the death date has also been found as December 16, 1890, believed to be a typo from the WPA Graves Survey. Both his obituary and death record use the death year of 1889; it is not known where WPA came up with 1890.]
