Death of Kirby CAVINESS.

On Wednesday last, at Pleasant Plain, occurred the death of Mr. Kirby CAVINESS, of heart disease. Mr. CAVINESS was 69 years of age. He was born in Chatham county, North Carolina, May 12, 1814. He resided in his native state until 1834, when he removed to Indiana, and on July 31st, 1836, was married to Esther OSBORN, who survives him. The fruit of this union was twelve children, ten of whom, eight sons and two daughters, are yet living, four of the former in this county. In the fall of 1848 Mr. CAVINESS removed with his family from Hendrix county, Indiana, to Iowa. He stopped at Henry County until 1850, and in the spring of that year removed to this county, settling in the Richwoods. In 1851 he removed to the farm near Beckwith which he occupied continuously until this spring. In earlier life Mr. CAVINESS was a member of the M. E. church, and although of late years not identified with any denomination he was yet a man of deep religious convictions and of good morals--a really good man. Coming here at an early day, he was strongly identified with the early settlement of Jefferson county. Politically Mr. CAVINESS was originally a whig, and an ardent supporter of Harrison, Taylor and Scott. He took an active part in the organization of the republican party in Jefferson county, and adhered to its principles without wavering as long as he lived. While holding no political positions of importance, he was an active worker in matters political and his name will be found in the proceedings of many a convention in this county. Mr. CAVINESS was a good husband and kind father, and carefully trained and educated his children with the means at his command. His remains were interred in the Walnut cemetery, southwest of Pleasant Plain, on Thursday last, Rev. W. Z. Hobson conducting the services.
