NOBLE, David Ralph -- David Ralph NOBLE, 78, of Douds, died of cancer at 8:40 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren Hospice in Keosauqua.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Christ United Methodist Church in Douds, with the Rev. Ann Donat, the Rev. Richard Wallarab and the Rev. Hal Noble officiating. Burial, with military rites by American Legion John Hyson Reneker Post, will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery, north of Douds.
Open visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the family present from 3-5 p.m. and Masonic rites by Ancient Free and Accepted Masons Celestial Lodge at 5 p.m.
Memorials to Christ United Methodist Church or American Brain Tumor Association may be left at the funeral home or church or may be mailed to the family at 14668 Route V-64, Douds 52551.
Mr. NOBLE was born March 2, 1932, in Indianapolis, Ind., the son of Charles and May MUSE NOBLE. He married Mary JENSEN June 2, 1956, in Elyria, Ohio.
Mr. NOBLE graduated from LaGrange High School in Ohio as valedictorian of the class of 1950. He earned his bachelor of arts degree from Ohio University in 1955 and did undergraduate studies at Oberlin School of Theology in Oberlin, Ohio, and University of Iowa. He was a consecrated Diaconal Minister of Music in the United Methodist Church and was a past national president of the Fellowship of United Methodists in Worship, Music and the Other Arts. He served in Elyria, Ohio, Cookeville, Tenn., St. Paul's of Cedar Rapids United Methodist Churches and First Presbyterian Church in Fairfield during his 55 years in the ministry of music from 1955-2010. He was the proprietor of Wood'n Things, a woodworking shop in Douds.
Mr. NOBLE served in the United States Navy from 1956-1957 abourd the USS Hailey during the Suez Canal crisis.
Mr. NOBLE was a 50-year Mason and past master and past secretary of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons Celestial Lodge No. 413. He was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Twin City Chapter No. 258 and American Legion John Hyson Reneker Post No. 494, both of Douds. Since 1989, he was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Douds, where he served in numerous capacities, including as chairman of the administrative board. He was a past member of Wapello Chiefs barbershop music group in Ottumwa.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Kathy SMITH and husband Steve of Coralville, Debbie FINNEY and husband Jon of Keosauqua and Mary KIMPSTON and husband Bruce of Clive; five grandchildren; and two brothers, Ed NOBLE of Lakewood, Ohio, and Charles NOBLE of Fort Mitchell, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James as an infant and Richard.
