"Gideon R. Bayne died Feb. 23 at midnight, age 75 years. About 65 years of his life were spent in Iowa. Born in Kentucky Feb. 16, 1823 and when 13 years old with his parents moved to Louisa County and remained there until the last 20 years which were spent in and near Pleasant Plain. In 1847 married Maria Welch. Nine children, of whom only 4 are living - William at Wapello, Ellen Alstott in Nebraska, Vina Jordan in Ottumwa, and Vada Randall at Woolson. Member of the Christian Church."
