BATTERSON, Donald R. 'Jack' -- Donald R. 'Jack' BATTERSON, 88, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Arrangements are pending. The Jones-Eden Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

BATTERSON, Donald R. 'Jake' -- Donald R. "Jake" BATTERSON, 88, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a sudden illness.

A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington, with the Rev. Julie Poulsen officiating. Interment will take place in Elm Grove Cemetery.

Family visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family also will receive friends following the service during a reception at the funeral home.

A general memorial has been established. Online condolences may be sent through the Internet at www.jonesfh.com.

Mr. BATTERSON was born March 15, 1922, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Aaron and Alpha YORK BATTERSON. He married Alma O'CONNOR Nov. 20, 1943, in Washington, Iowa. She died in 2002.

Mr. BATTERSON attended school and graduated from high school in Washington. He worked as a tool and dye (sic) maker for Washington Manufacturing and later Fansteel.

Mr. BATTERSON was a member of United Methodist Church in Washington.

He enjoyed woodworking, making furniture and cabinets and going for drives.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna WADDELL of Jeffersonville, Ind., and Raberta L. SCHAFER and husband Russ of Fairfield; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Dean BATTERSON of Washington, Sam BATTERSON of Washington and Dale "Dude" BATTERSON of Washington.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Patricia PEIFFER; two brothers, Jim and Elmer "Butch;" and one sister, Wanda WILSON.
