Was A Pioneer of Iowa and A Resident Here For Many Years
Mrs. Sarah J. SIPPEL, widow of Charles P. SIPPEL, who was the county clerk in Fairfield for several years, and a resident of this city for a number of years, died March 2 at the home of her daughter Mrs. Louise Joy in Centralia, Wash. The funeral was held at Centralia March 4 from the Newell funeral parlors and burial took place in Mt. View burial park.
Sarah J. SIPPEL was born in Shelby county, Indiana, Nov. 16, 1845. When six months old her father, James LEISURE, with his family left Indiana in a covered wagon drawn by oxen and settled in Iowa. In September, 1871, she married Chas. P. SIPPEL. To this union were born four children, two of whom survive her, Margaret and Louise. She is also survived by two grandchildren. She united with the Christian church 61 years ago and lived a consistent Christian life until her death. She had been an invalid for three years, confined to her bed the past year.

Married on September 21, 1871.
Her husband, Charles P SIPPEL, died in 1893 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa. A young daughter, Annie M SIPPEL (aged 2y 1m 1d) died March 1, 1877, is buried in Abingdon Cemetery in Jefferson County, Iowa just a few miles NW of Fairfield.
