PHELPS C. SHORES DIED AT MONMOUTH (ILL.) HOSPITAL

Phelps C. Shores, a former well known resident of this city, passed away yesterday at the Hospital in Monmouth, Ill., following a few days illness with Spanish Influenza and pneumonia. The body will be brought to this city this afternoon and take (sic. taken) to Evergreen cemetery where interment will be made.

He was about twenty-nine years of age and is survived by his wife who was formerly Miss Gaila STANSBERRY of Libertyville, and a son, Sumner, who is about six years of age, and a little daughter Lois, age two years.

Mr. and Mrs. SHORES made their home in this city nd (sic. and) also at Libertyville ntil (sic. until) about two years ago when they moved to Roseville, Ill.

*Transcribed for genealogy purposes. I am not related to the person(s) mentioned.

Note: The obituary was published on October 16, and referred to Phelps' death having taken place "yesterday". That would give a death date of October 15, 1918. An earlier Evergreen Cemetery transcription had used October 16, 1918 as the death date.

Buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa. Old.P.073. He is buried in the same plot as his maternal grandparents, Joseph B. YOUMANS and Abigail SQUIRES YOUMANS. Evidently his mother was the "Mrs. Fannie SHORES" of Lombard, Ill. at the time of the Feb. 1911 deaths of Joseph and Abigail YOUMANS as she was referred to in their joint obituary (she being their daughter). The name of Phelps' father was not disclosed.
