Jan. 24, 1906, 3-3.Death of Mrs. Sarah YOUNG
Sarah E., daughter of James A. and Emma GALHER (sic.GALLIHER) was born in Danville, Ill., July 13 1833. Her mother died when she was but four or five years old. The family came to Iowa in 1840, settling on a farm east of Fairfield. She availed herself of the scanty means at hand for education in Jefferson county. She married Nathaniel W. YOUNG Oct. 4, 1855, the wedding taking place at the old homestead.
Mr. and Mrs. YOUNG began housekeeping in Harrison County, West Virginia. They returned to Iowa in 1859, settling near Fairfield, where they remained until 1881, when they moved to a farm near Stuart, Iowa. Mr. YOUNG died September 28, 1899 his death coming suddenly. Mrs. YOUNG has continually grieved and longed to meet her husband, which longing has been fulfilled. The family consists of seven children, one boy having died in infancy, leaving four daughters and three sons. The sons are: J.G., for some years a minister of the M. E. Church, of the Des Moines conference, but now living in Oklahoma; E. A. (sic. Edward Allison YOUNG) and C. W. of this city. The daughters are: Hannah E. WREN, of Oklahoma; Effie, of Boulder, Colo., and Ollie and Nellie of Fairfield.
Mrs. YOUNG had been a member of the M.E. church for many years. Her nature ran quiet and deep, but full of the love of the Heavenly Father. The closing up of her life was to her but the taking of a trip to meet friends. She fell asleep in Christ in the deepest of confidence and every child has a right to “Rise up and call her blessed” and ought to thank God for such a mother. The end came quietly after prolonged illness and as relief January 17, 1906. Her body was laid to rest by the side of her husband at Stuart, Ia., She is at rest with God and friends of yours gone by. Services were conducted at the home by Rev. Osborne, of the M.E. church, last Thursday morning. ///A FRIEND

Jan. 24, 1906, 6-5.She Was a Pioneer Woman.
Mrs. Sarah E. YOUNG, who died in this city Wednesday, was a daughter of James A. GALLIHER, a pioneer settler and official of Jefferson County. He purchased land here in 1838 and brought his family to the county in 1840, Mrs. YOUNG was born in Illinois July 13th, 1833. She grew to maturity here and was married to Nathaniel W. YOUNG October 4th, 1855. In 1875 the family removed to Stuart, where the father died September 28th, 1899. Seven children survive the parents, five living in this city and two in Oklahoma. Mrs. YOUNG returned to Fairfield in 1900 and has since made her home here. She had been ill about two months. She had a wide acquaintance in this community and there are many friends who will mourn her death, for she was an excellent woman in all the relations of life. Funeral services were held at the home in this city Thursday, conducted by Rev. Thos. Osborn, and the body was taken to Stuart for interment. Funeral services were held there Friday.

Note: Nathaniel W Young and his wife Sarah E. GALLIHER YOUNG are buried at North Oak Grove Cemetery in the town of Stuart, in Guthrie County, Iowa. Lot 28. Their headstone is engraved under the surname “YOUNG”; “N.W. YOUNG, Mar. 4, 1834 – Sept. 28, 1899”; “SARAH E. His Wife, July 13, 1833 – Jan. 17, 1906”. Also, their daughter Effie shares inscription space on the same facing: “EFFIE, Apr. 15, 1863 – Nov. 17, 1917”. However, cemetery transcriptions for that cemetery (North and South) do not appear to list Effie under the YOUNG surname or any other surname. She may have been married and buried elsewhere under a different surname, but placed on the YOUNG monument with her parents in her memory. Clarification would be appreciated. There are several other YOUNG surnamed burials in the Oak Grove Cemetery and it is likely that at least some are related to Nathaniel W. and Sarah YOUNG.
