Previous to this a short funeral service will be held Tuesday at his late residence, after which the remains will be brought to Fairfield, arriving here at 2:17 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
Mr. TEMPLETON is survived by the following children: W.H. TEMPLETON, Greeley, Colo.; Frank S. TEMPLETON, Denver, Colorado; Guy M. TEMPLETON, Mitchell, S.D.; J.W. TEMPLETON, Ottuwma, Ia.; Mrs. L. Dell WELCH, Los Angeles, Cal.; Mrs. L.M. MCGREGOR, Fairfield. There are also a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
William M. TEMPLETON was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. TEMPLETON and was born in Warren county, Ohio, June 5th, 1837. He came with his parents to Jefferson county when a boy.
October 17, 1858, he was married to Miss Melinda GALLIHER and to this union the children were born. Mrs. TEMPLETON died October 19, 1880 (sic. October 20, 1880 is the correct death date).
Mr. TEMPLETON married Miss Theressa (sic. Thressa on headstone) GALLIHER, a sister of his first wife, Jan. 8, 1885 (sic. not sure if the 1885 date is correct as the microfilm image wasn't clear on that particular portion). Soon after this marriage Mr. and Mrs. TEMPLETON went to Creston to reside and about 25 years ago they removed to Ottumwa. Mrs. TEMPLETON died Dec. 9, 1912 (sic. only "1912" is engraved on her headstone inscription for her death date; other sources use Dec. 7, 1912 as the death date). Mr. TEMPLETON had been a farmer but has been retired for a number of years.
*Transcribed for genealogy purposes. I am not related to the person(s) mentioned.
Note: Buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa. Old.P.383. Some TEMPLETON family descendants and researchers have inadvertently put in their family files or online cemetery memorial postings that William M TEMPLETON and his two wives were buried at "Fairfield Cemetery"/ a/k/a "Old Fairfield City Cemetery". Those names for the original cemetery established in Fairfield are sometimes confused with Evergreen Cemetery, which is adjacent but a separate entity.
Also, the 1943 published obituary for the daughter Dell inadvertently used "WELSH" as her married name. The correct married surname was "WELCH" and she and her husband William are also buried at Evergreen Cemetery under the "WELCH" surname. Due to the incorrect published obituary surname, Dell and William can also be found listed under the "WELSH" surname in certain online cemetery memorial listings.
