Death of Mr. WELCH.

William A. WELCH died at his home two and a half miles east of Fairfield, Thursday, February 27th, after an illness of two weeks caused by an abscess. He was born in Jefferson county, Iowa, April 17th, 1856. His parents, John and Clarissa (sic. maiden name CHASE) WELCH, are living in the county. Mr. WELCH was married September 16th, 1881, to Miss. L. Dell TEMPLETON. One daughter, Lulu, aged eleven years, was born to them. He lived in Henry county, near Winfield, for several years, but two years ago returned to this county. He was an industrious farmer, a kind neighbor, and a loving husband and father. His grief stricken parents and bereaved wife and child have the sincere sympathy of many friends who knew and esteemed Mr. WELCH in his years of health and happiness. He was not identified by actual membership with any church, but lived a good life. Before his death he gave evidence of his belief and faith in God. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. A. Boatman at the M.E. church Saturday, February 29th. at 2:30 o'clock p.m.

*Transcribed for genealogy purposes. I am not related to the person(s) mentioned.

Note: The family surname was WELCH. The April 29th, 1943 Fairfield (Ia.) Daily Ledger inadvertently published the name of his widow as being "Della WELSH", causing some TEMPLETON family researchers to use that surname instead of the correct WELCH surname.

Buried in Evegreen Cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa. SDof17-002. The plot and headstone is shared with his parents, John and Clarissa CHASE WELCH, and his wife "L. Dell TEMPLETON" WELCH. The inscription portion of the headstone has been broken from the WELCH base, landing atop the individual headstone for L. Dell TEMPLETON WELCH. There is a single headstone marker engraved "W.A.W." for William that escaped damage.

The daughter, Lulu, went on to marry a Harold BROWN and she is mentioned as "Mrs. Harold BROWN" in the death notice for her mother in 1943.
