Long-Time LOUDEN Employee Dies

Bernie CLINKENBEARD, 78, veteran employee at the Louden Machinery company and a life-time resident of Fairfield, passed away Saturday night at the Jefferson county hospital where he had been seriously ill the past four days.

Before entering the hospital he had been a patient at the Crawford Nursing home. He had been in failing health the past two years. Last rites will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. J.P. Foster in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Weston Behner funeral home Tuesday and until noon Wednesday.

Bernie CLINKENBEARD was born Aug. 18, 1879, at Fairfield, the son of the late Joseph and Margaret HUDGELL CLINKENBEARD. He was married to Pearl May EDWARDS on May 7, 1901, in Fairfield. She passed away June 3, 1954. The family home is at 405 W. Briggs.

Mr. CLINKENBEARD retired in 1955 after working at the Louden Machinery company for 47 years. He was the last of a pioneer family of 11 children.

He is survived by the following children: Margaret ANDERSON, Knoxville; Mrs. Cleo SPEAKE, Fairfield; Wilbur CLINKENBEARD, at home; and Verl C. CLINKENBEARD, Phoenix, Ariz. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and one son (sic. Harold Ambrose CLINKENBEARD, 1907-1908, buried in the same plot at Evergreen Cemetery).

Note: Buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa. 1st.041. The given name was Bernard CLINKENBEARD. His name used in his obituary and on his headstone is "Bernie". While there are two variations of the surname (CLINKENBEARD and CLINKINBEARD) that can be found for various individuals in this cemetery, the surname used by Bernard "Bernie" was CLINKENBEARD.
