Special transcription note: Various members of the Clinkenbeard family rooted in Jefferson County used either Clinkenbeard or Clinkinbeard for their surnames during their lifetimes. In some cases, the name used in life got put on a headstone or used in a published obituary with the other spelling. Researchers of this family surname should check primary sources, family records, obituaries, and headstones to judge what surname is most appropriate.

In this case, while this obituary for Enola uses "Clinkenbeard"; the husband's obituary, draft registration papers, and their headstones use "Clinkinbeard".

FORMER LOCAL RESIDENT DIED IN CHICAGO

Mrs. Emery CLINKENBEARD was born and reared in Jefferson County.

Mrs. Emery CLINKENBEARD, former Fairfield and Jefferson county resident, passed away at the Billings hospital in Chicago Wednesday evening. Before her marriage she was Enola KIGER.

The body will arrive in Fairfield tonight and will be taken to the Hoskins funeral home. Funeral arrangements will be made after the arrival of relatives.

Mrs. CLINKENBEARD was born and spent her early life near Glasgow and also lived in Fairfield. She had lived in Evanston, Ill. for the past several years.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Margaret LIMING, Fairfield; and two brothers, O. W. KIGER of near Glasgow, and Noble I. KIGER, Fairfield.

One brother, Lewis KIGER, preceded her in death.

Note: Buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa. 2nd.016. Her headstone is engraved with the dates 1881-1942, and the CLINKINBEARD married surname is used.

CLINKENBEARD RITES WILL BE HERE SATURDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. E. J. CLINKENBEARD will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Hoskins funeral home in charge of Dr. M. A. Gable. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Mrs. CLINKENBEARD passed away in the Billings hospital in Chicago Wednesday evening and her body arrived here last night.

She was born Enola Belle KIGER near Springfield, Ohio, Sept. 8, 1880 (sic. 1881 on her headstone). She with her parents and brothers and sisters moved to a farm near Glasgow, Iowa in 1885. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Moses KIGER.

She married Emery CLINKENBEARD on January 31, 1906. For several years she had lived in Chicago and more recently in Evanston, Ill.

Mrs. CLINKENBEARD is survived by her husband; one sister, Mrs. John LIMING of Fairfield; and two brothers, O. W. KIGER of near Glasgow and Noble I. KIGER of Fairfield.

Her parents and one brother Lewis, preceded her in death.

OBITUARY

MRS. ENOLA BELLE
CLINKINBEARD

Enola Belle KIGER, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Moses KIGER was born Sept. 8, 1880 near Springfield, Ohio. She came to Iowa with her parents and sister and brothers in 1885 and settled on a farm near Glasgow. She attended the country school and the Mount Pleasant schools. Early in life she joined the Methodist church. In 1896 the family moved to Jefferson county, Iowa where her parents took charge of the Jefferson County Home.

On January 31, 1906 she was united in marriage with Emery J. CLINKINBEARD at Libertyville. She and her husband went immediately to Burlington where they were employed as assistants in the Des Moines County Home for several years. Later they purchased a home in Burlington where they resided until they moved to Chicago where they have resided for the past twenty-five years and the past few years in Evanston, Ill.

Mrs. CLINKINBEARD was taken seriously ill the later part of May and was taken to the Billings hospital in Chicago where she passed away on June 10th, 1942 at 7:45 p.m. At her bedside were her husband and her only sister, Mrs. Margaret LIMING, her nephew Harry KIGER and Mr. CLINKINBEARD's sister and nephew Mrs Pauline HEFLIN and Dr. Ormand JULIAN. All that could be done by medical science and loving hands was done, but to no avail. Her body was removed to the Scott funeral home in Evanston where she lay in state until time to be returned to Fairfield on Thursday night.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 13th at 2:00 o'clock from the Hoskins funeral home. The services were in charge of Dr. M. A. Gable. Mrs. William Neibert sang "Crossing The Bar." She was laid to rest in Fairfield Evergreen cemetery by the side of her parents. Nephews of Mrs. CLINKINBEARD served as pallbearers.

She is survived by her husband E. J. CLINKINBEARD of Evanston, Ill., her sister, Mrs. Margaret LIMING of Fairfield and two brothers, O. W. KIGER of near Glasgow and Noble I. KIGER of Fairfield, and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Her parents and one brother, Lewis, preceded her in death.

Mrs. CLINKINBEARD was of a beautiful character and was always held in the highest esteem and beloved by all who knew her. She was always so thoughtful and kind to others.
