Page 2, Column 1WM. S. HAMMOND DIED EARLY TODAY
Wm. HAMMOND a well known resident of the city passed away about four o'clock this morning, at his home on West Briggs street. Mr. HAMMOND has been in poor health for several years and has been seriously ill for the last year.
Funeral services will be held from the home Friday afternoon at two o'clock in charge of Rev. H.A. Mosser. Interment will be made in the Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. HAMMOND has for many years been a resident of this county, having come here as a railroad engineer when the C. B. & Q. railroad was built through here. Had he lived until June 27th he would have reached his 73rd year. He is survived by his wife and three brothers.

The members will meet at the hall at 1:30 and then proceed to the home where the services will be held

Friday, April 11, 1991 (sic - 1919)FUNERAL OF WM. HAMMOND HELD TODAY
Funeral services for the late Wm. HAMMOND were held this afternoon at two o'clock, from the residence, in charge of Rev. H. A. Mosser. Interment was made in the Evergreen cemetery.
William HAMMOND, the son of David and Susan HAMMOND, was born in Milford, Indiana, June 27, 1844 (sic). Both parents passed away when he was a young boy. Mr. HAMMOND came to Fairfield as a railroad engineer, when the C. B. & Q. railroad was built through here. He was married twice, first to Miss Elizabeth NUTTING and later to Miss Nettie CAMPBELL, of Syracuse, New York, who survives him.
Several years ago Mr. HAMMOND was injured in an accident, and has been in poor health since then. For the past year has been in a serious condition and passed away early Wednesday morning.
Besides his sorrowing wife he is survived by three brothers: Theodore and Charles, of Milford, Indiana, and Joseph, of Ohio.

HAMMOND at Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa, Old.P.282, has the birth date of June 22, 1846 engraved for him. Whether or not the engraving is wrong or the obituary as published was wrong isn't known; in either case transposing 22 and 27 would be easy to do. Consider either date with some caution pending any clarification.
