FOLKER, Jack Summers -- Jack Summers FOLKER, 85, formerly of Keosauqua, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, at home in Annandale, Va.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Purdom Cemetery in Keosauqua, with military rites by American Legion Beer-Barker Post No. 113 of Keosauqua.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

Memorials to Friends of Lacey-Keosauqua State Park may be left at the funeral home or service or may be mailed to the family at 4701 Randolph Court, Annandale, VA 22003.

Mr. FOLKER was born June 29, 1925, in Farmington. He married Bettie Hambleton MINTZ in 1949. She died in 1962. He married Annelies DWYER in 1965.

Mr. FOLKER grew up in Farming and Keosauqua and graduated in 1942 from Keosauqua High School, where he played varsity baseball and basketball. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and was commissioned to pilot cargo planes during World War II.

Mr. FOLKER furthered his education on a GI Bill and graduated from University of Iowa with a bachelor's degree in business administration. Early in his career, Mr. FOLKER was an estimator for the construction industry in the Washington, D.C., area. He became part owner in several companies and later sole owner of Site Engineering and Construction Corporation, which focused on public utility reinforced concrete construction. Mr. FOLKER's secondary focus was on constructing residential homes.

His hobbies included flying his Mooney single engine airplane and golfing.

Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Alison BERNHART and husband Frank of Wilmington, N.C., Adrienne FOLKER of Wilmington, N.C., Anne FOLKER of Fairfax, Va., Janelle SCHUTT and husband John of Annandale, Va., and Kathleen HERMAN and husband Lee of Johns Creek, Ga.; one stepdaughter, Denise PATTON of Springfield, Va.; six grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin FOLKER and Katharine Lanphere HARWOOD; and one brother, Dean FOLKER.
