WASSON, Marie A. -- Marie A. WASSON, 90, formerly of Brighton, died at 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at Halcyon House in Washington, Iowa.

A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Saints Joseph and Cabrini Church in East Pleasant Plain, with the Rev. Robert Striegel officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton.

Family visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

General memorials may be left at the church or may be mailed to the family at 1203 N. Vine St., Creston 50801.

Gould Funeral Home in Brighton is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. WASSON was born Feb. 8, 1920, on the family farm west of Iowa City, the daughter of Fred and Agnes STEBRAL NEUZIL. She married Jasper E. WASSON March 17, 1945, in Iowa City. He died in 1998.

Mrs. WASSON attended country school and graduated from Cosgrove High School in 1937. She graduated from Irish Business College in 1938. She and her husband farmed in the Iowa City area until purchasing a farm east of Brighton in 1951.

Mrs. WASSON was a lifetime member of Saints Joseph and Cabrini Church. She was a member of Altar and Rosary Society and a past member of American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 212 in Brighton.

Survivors include four daughters, Ella JENNINGS and husband David of Williamsburg, Linda LINCH and husband John of Creston, Nancy DICKINSON of Brighton and Beverly LARSON and husband Merwyn of Mason City; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph NEUZIL of Iowa City; and one sister, Darlene VAN KIRK of Marshalltown.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Sylvester NEUZIL; and two sisters, Mildred SOVERS and Josephine NEUZIL.
