Maynard Leon BAKER

Maynard Leon BAKER, 74, of Tacoma, Wash., died from cancer Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at his daughter's home in Spanaway, Wash.

Mr. BAKER was born July 4, 1936, the son of Johnie and Hazel BAKER.

He grew up in Fairfield and graduated in 1955 from Fairfield High School, where he was an athlete. After two years of college, Mr. BAKER joined the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Lewis near Tacoma, Wash., where he married, raised a family and resided for the remainder of his life. He retired in 1999 after working 37 years for the Burlington Northern Railroad.

Mr. BAKER enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, spending time outdoors and being with his grandchildren.

Survivors include one son, Kevin and wife Sandy of Spokane, Wash.; one daughter, Allyson HANCOCK and husband Joseph of Spanaway, Wash.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Ronald of Denver, Colo., Esther BROWN of Tupelo, Miss., and Norlyn of Dundas, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Brent of Kansas City. Mo.
