Long-Time Music Instructor Dies, Funeral Friday

Death came late yesterday afternoon to Elizabeth MAASDAM, long time resident of Fairfield and a music instructor in the Fairfield public schools for over a quarter of a century.

She passed away at 5:15 p.m. at the home of her sister, Mrs. Ralph KANN, 104 N. Morgan. She had been serously ill since January, 1952, at which time she was forced to give up her work in the public schools.

Miss MAASDAM first became music instructor in the local school in 1926 and held that position until her health forced her to retire. Just before her illness, she was teaching youngsters whose parents at one time were her pupils.

She didn't confine her music abilities to her school work only. Miss MAASDAM was widely known in musical circles and at the time of her death was a board member of the Community Concert organization.

She was a member of Chapter C, P.E.O.; Chapter E, T.T.T., which she once served as national president; past president of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of the Presbyterian church and taught at Stockport and Packwood before starting her work in the Fairfield schools.

Elizabeth Louise MAASDAM was born Sept. 23, 1897, at Pella, Ia., the daughter of the late Jacob G. and Catherine WAGAMAN MAASDAM. She was reared and educated in Fairfield, was graduated from the Fairfield high school and from Parsons college in 1921. She had made her home in this community since Jan. 15, 1906.

She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Ralph KANN (sic. Marie E MAASDAM KANN), Fairfield; a brother Fred D. MAASDAM, Ottumwa; three nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, William.

Last rites will be Friday at 2 o'clock.
