MADDEN, Mildred Ora -- Mildred Ora MADDEN, 98, of Ottumwa, formerly of Selma, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties in Ottumwa.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. Marla Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Harness Cemetery in Mount Sterling.

Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6:30-8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties, P.O. Box 1150, Ottumwa 52501; or to Ottumwa Community Schools -- Evans Middle School Band, care of Judy Madden, 403 W. Appanoose, Ottumwa 52501.

Mrs. MADDEN was born March 17, 1912, near Bentonsport, the daughter of John and Mary Jane HILLIARD RANDOLPH. She married Ernest MADDEN.

Mrs. MADDEN attended school near Bentonsport. She later became a nurse's aide, working first at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua and later at Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa. She retired from the Ottumwa health center in 1977.

Mrs. MADDEN was a member of Church of the Brethren in Ottumwa, where she assisted with fundraising by growing and picking apples for pies and baskets sold at the county fair.

Mrs. MADDEN enjoyed spending time with family, helping her children raise their children and grandchildren, cooking and watching the Evans Middle School marching band.

Survivors include one sister, Ann of Bay City, Mich.; two children, Evelyn RITZ and Judy MADDEN, both of Ottumwa; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Dottie May and Fannie; three brothers, Francis, Jake and Jim; two daughters, Norma SMITH and Marion COX; three sons, William, Keith and Joseph; and one grandson.
