Mrs. Elizabeth KNIGHT Passed Away Here Tuesday After a Short Illness, Mother of Large Family
Mrs. Elizabeth KNIGHT passed peacefully across the river of death Tuesday evening at 5:30 o'clock at the home of her daughter Mrs. Dennis GREEN, on South Third street after a few hours illness.
Elizabeth MEEK was born in Green county, Pa., April 16, 1816. She was married to Reuben KNIGHT on September 15, 1832. To this union was born sixteen children, five of whom have preceded their mother. On July 13, 1863, the husband passed away, immediately after which Mrs. KNIGHT and her children came to Iowa to make their home.
They settled near this city and are well known to the older residents all over the county.
Mrs. KNIGHT had been a member of the Methodist church since early childhood and brought her children up in that faith.
She has always enjoyed good health until recently. A sick spell in May left her quite weak. Monday morning she complained of a pain in her side and a doctor was called who prescribed for her. She sank to sleep Monday afternoon from which she never aroused.
The end came quietly and peacefully Tuesday evening at 5:30 o'clock. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock from the home. Rev. Pearse Pluch will conduct the last services.
Among the children, who survive this good woman, is: Mrs. Florence KELTNER, of this city; Mrs. (sic. can't read from copy) SMITH, of Redding; Louis, of Mt. Ayer and Mrs. Phoebe SAGE, of Mt. Pleasant.
