SHOOK, Lois BUCKINGHAM -- Lois BUCKINGHAM SHOOK, 89, of Sun City West, Ariz., died Monday, June 28, 2010, at home.

A memorial service will be Aug. 2 at Desert Palms Presbyterian Church in Sun City West, Ariz.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Mrs. SHOOK was born June 20, 1921, in Fairfield, the daughter of Joe and Laura FRITZ BUCKINGHAM. She married James Purman SHOOK Jr. June 6, 1952, in Okinawa, Japan. He died in 2008.

Mrs. SHOOK attended rural and town elementary schools and graduated from Fairfield High School. She graduated from Parsons College in 1943. She taught school in Earlham and Winterset before going to Okinawa, Hapan, to teach business classes at Kubasaki High School with the Department of Defense Dependents Schools for 30 years. She also was custodian of the activities fund at the high school for many years. After retiring in 1979, she and her husband moved to Sun City West.

Mrs. SHOOK was a member of Overseas Education Associaton/National Education Association. She also was a member of Order of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. SHOOK enjoyed attending Parsons College and FHS reunions, participating in cultural and philanthropic events and attending student and staff reunions related to her career in Okinawa.

Survivors include 10 siblings, Aletha HAY of Burlington, Ruth HOYT of Ottumwa, Helen NEFF of Camarilla, Calif., Carol NELSON of Fairfield, Della TAYLOR of Fairfield, Frank BUCKINGHAM of Nix, Mo., Edith GAUBY of Nampa, Idaho, Bernice OGDEN of Fairfield, Christine BOYENGA of Merced, Calif., and Doris EPPERSON of St. Francis, Kan.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Glen BUCKINGHAM.
