WONDERLICH, Robert L. -- Robert L. WONDERLICH, 91, of Ollie, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at the Manor House Care Center at Sigourney, Iowa. He was born July 30, 1918, west of Ollie, Iowa, the son of Jacob and Grace RICE WONDERLICH. He graduated from the Ollie High School with the class of 1936, of which he was the last living. Following high school, he farmed and did custom threshing work with his twin brother, Charles. Robert enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 and served his country until 1945. On May 25, 1944, he was united in marriage to Norma Gene BROLLIAR at Ollie during a furlough from the Army. The day after he was discharged from the military, he and Norma Gene moved back to the Ollie area where they farmed and made their home. They remained on that farm until moving into town in 1991. Norma Gene preceded him in death on November 9, 2000.

Robert was a very active member of the Ollie Baptist Church and served the church in several capacities, including treasurer for several years. He was also a member of the Richland American Legion and the Farm Bureau. He served on both the Ollie and Pekin Community School Boards. Robert was active in organizing reunions for the 20th Armored Division; keeping close with his division comrades was important to him. He enjoyed gardening and working outside. He also enjoyed driving around his farm and checking on the crops. He loved the Lord, his family, and agriculture.

Robert's family includes his three sons and their wives, Arlen and Karlene WONDERLICH of Ames, Iowa, Chris and Nancy WONDERLICH of Waterville, Iowa, and Rob and Corinna WONDERLICH of Ollie, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Janet WONDERLICH of Shelbyville, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren; Annalie (Chris) THIES, Kirscha (Brent) GRAY, Ahren (Heather) WONDERLICH, Kristen WUNDERLICH, Megan (Don) ERNST, Elizabeth (Frank) ROZYCKI, Ryan WONDERLICH, Kortney (Rob) RYAN, Grant (Leslie) WONDERLICH, Jacob WONDERLICH, and Rachel WONDERLICH; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Milford (Betty) WONDERLICH, and Lee (Marian) WONDERLICH; a sister, Marilyn (Gordon) GOTT; and one sister-in-law, Neoma WONDERLICH.

In addition to his wife Norma Gene, he was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Roger WONDERLICH; and one brother, Charles WONDERLICH.

Funeral services were at 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 2, 2010, at the Ollie Baptist Church. Interment was at the Ollie Cemetery near Ollie. Fremont Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Visitation was at the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont, Iowa, on Thursday, July 1, 2010, from 11:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., with family present from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Ollie Baptist Church or the Pekin Community Schools Dollars for Scholars.
