GOULD, Marjory -- Marjory GOULD, 99, of Richland, died early today, Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren in Keosauqua.
Arrangements are pending at Gould Funeral Home in Richland.

GOULD, Marjory M. -- Marjory M. GOULD, 99, of Richland, died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren in Keosauqua.
A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Richland United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kim Gates officiating. Burial will be in Richland Friends Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at Gould Funeral Home in Richland, with the family present from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials to the Maurice & Marjory Gould Scholarship may be left at the funeral home or church or may be mailed to the family at P.O. Box 149, Brighton 52540.
Mrs. GOULD was born April 30, 1911, near Birmingham, the daughter of Thomas Irving and Virgie Blanche GALL WILLIAMS. She married Maurice R. GOULD July 20, 1932, in Memphis, Mo. He died Aug. 20, 2007.
Mrs. GOULD grew up south of Birmingham and graduated from Birmingham High School in 1930. She graduated from Hohenschuh-Carpenter College of Embalming in St. Louis, Mo., in December 1937. She and her husband received their embalming and funeral directing licenses in 1938; Mrs. GOULD became one of the earliest licensed female funeral directors in the state. The GOULDs moved to Richland and purchased Allen Funeral Home in September 1940 and Hoskins Funeral Home in Brighton in 1958. They also owned and operated a coin-operated laundry and a furniture store in Richland. Mrs. GOULD retired in 2007 and lived with her son in Brighton until moving into Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren in 2009.
Mrs. GOULD was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association and Iowa Funeral Directors Association for many years. She was a member of Richland United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Priscilla Club, Friday Night Bridge Club, Pythian Sisters in Brighton and various card clubs in Richland.
Survivors include two sons, John GOULD and wife Valerie of San Jose, Calif., and Wayne GOULD and wife Lynne of Brighton; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Phyllis SASSEEN; two infant children; three brothers, Lester, Arthur and Robert WILLIAMS; and five sisters, Lucille DOUGHTY, Beryl KERR, Marie KURKA, Beulah PHILIPS and Faye DOOLEY.
