Dorothy M. SWITZER, 78, of Burlington died at 4:10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 1997, at Elm View Care Center, where she had lived the last two years.
The funeral service will be be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lunning Chapel in Burlington. Interment and graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield. Visitation opens at 8 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with family present from 7 to 8:30 that evening. Memorials can be made to Home Caring Services.
Mrs. SWITZER was born Nov. 16, 1918, at Glasgow, the daughter of Harry and Maude SHELMAN COCHRAN. She married Donald C. SWITZER on May 15, 1936, in Kahoka, Mo. He died July 10, 1980. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn J. PARKER of Norfolk, Neb., and Lonna LARSON of Burlington; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Esther HARLAN of Keokuk and Barbara GARMOE of Burlington; two brothers, Raymond COCHRAN of Long Island, N.Y. , and Leslie COCHRAN of Burnsville, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Note: The headstone at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, Iowa where she and her husband Donald are buried (4th.251) has her first name spelled as "Dorthy". Her obituary and the SSDI record found for her online use the name "Dorothy", so perhaps the headstone was engraved in error or the name "Dorthy" was a family name that she used other than her given name. Clarification would be appreciated.
