LYON, Mary Martha -- Mary Martha LYON, 98, formerly of Jefferson County, died Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at Longhouse Nursing Home in Spencer.

A private service will be held at the family's convenience.

Arrangements are in the care of Harris Funeral Home in Mallard.

Mrs. LYON was born Sept. 30, 1911, on a farm near Packwood, the daughter of John and Anna HILDEBRAND CLARK. She married Vern Floyd LYON May 26, 1937, in Mallard. He died May 24, 1975.

Mrs. LYON lived with her parents in Henry and Jefferson counties. She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1929 and from Cedar Falls College in 1931. She spent the following six years teaching in Jefferson, Van Buren, Henry and Palo Alto counties. Mrs. LYON later returned to University of Northern Iowa to renew her teaching credentials. She then taught in Rolfe from 1965-1976. Mrs. LYON had lived in the Curlew area for 30 years, as well as the Plover and Rolfe area.

Mrs. LYON was baptized Oct. 27, 1929, and joined the Methodist Church of Cedar Falls.

Survivors include one son, Vern John LYON of Spencer; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
