Betty Irene ECKARDT, 73, of Fairfield died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Good Samaritan Home in Keosauqua.

A private family service will be held.

Memorials may be sent to Good Samaritan Home in the care of Betty ECKARDT, 819 Country Lane Road, Keosauqua, Iowa 52565.

Mrs. ECKARDT was born May 26, 1928, in the Sigourney area, the daughter of Grant and Viola BALES WIMPSETT. She married Arnold CRABLE in 1946 in Fairfield. She married Wayne G. ECKARDT June 25, 1969, in Unionville, Mo.

She was educated in the Fairfield school district. She worked most of her life in sales. She was the first woman hired by coats, hats and gloves distributor, Lamberts Distribution and earned the title of top sales person for two years in a row. She also spent many years providing in-home care for the elderly. Her hobbies included cooking, spending time with her children and grandchildrn and playing bingo around southeast Iowa.

She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband Wayne ECKARDT; and three daughters, Connie BAILEY and husband David Bill of East Pleasant Plain, Peggy SIDWELL ahd husband Kenny of Fairfield and Penny GLASS and husband David of Fairfield; six grandchildren; three great-grand-children; one great-grandchild (sic. great-great ?); and two sisters, Donna MICKEY of North Little Rock, Ark., and Marie SMITHHART (sic. Smithart) of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and three brothers.
