GUSTAFSON, Betty -- Betty GUSTAFSON, 83, of Keosauqua, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, at her son's home in Lenexa, Kan.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

GUSTAFSON, Betty Louise McFEE -- Betty Louise McFEE GUSTAFSON, 83, of Keosauqua,died from cancer Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, at her son's home in Lenexa, Kan.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Burial will be in Forbes Cemetery, north of Keosauqua.

Open visitation began at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, where family will be present from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Graceland Cemetery in Creston in memory of Mrs. GUSTAFSON's parents and relatives or to Forbes Cemetery. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at 20835 W. 91st Terrace, Lenexa, KS 66220.

Mrs. GUSTAFSON was born Sept. 16, 1926, in Creston, the daughter of James and Maggie McFEE. She married Robert W. GUSTAFSON Sept. 7, 1947. He died in 2000.

Mrs. GUSTAFSON graduated from Creston High School in 1944 and from Iowa Methodist Nursing School in 1946. She began her nursing career in Des Moines at Iowa Methodist Hospital and Veterans Administration Hospital. She and her husband, a doctor, pursued their medical careers for many years in Van Buren County, where she worked for Van Buren Hospital and Good Samaritan Society-Van Buren.

Mrs. GUSTAFSON was a homeroom mother for 13 years in the 1960s and 1970s. She served as a band booster parent for numerous years -- she helped serve many fundraising meals and accompanied the Van Buren High School band on a trip to the East Coast in 1976.

She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing Canasta and Pinochle, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and playing piano.

Survivors include four children, Susan FAIRMAN of Bettendorf, Robert W. GUSTAFSON Jr. and wife Candie of Rock Falls, Ill., Steve GUSTAFSON and wife Phyllis of Lenexa, Kan., and Craig GUSTAFSON and wife Karin of Eagan, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ferne BREMHOHORST.
