SASSEEN, Ina Francis -- Ina Francis SASSEEN, 88, of Packwood, died at 11:20 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at Pleasantview Home in Kalona.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Gould Funeral Home in Richland, with the Rev. Danny Cary officiating. Burial will be in Packwood Cemetery.

Open visitation began at 3 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 5:30-7 p.m.

Memorials to Packwood Volunteer First Responders or Packwood Volunteer Fire Department may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at 317 Cayman St., Iowa City 52245.

Mrs. SASSEEN was born Aug. 13, 1921, near Linby, the daughter of Clarence and Lucy Francis CLINGMAN BOOK. She married William Russell SASSEEN Oct. 26, 1945, in Fairfield. He died Feb. 25, 1996.

Mrs. SASSEEN graduated from Packwood High School in 1939. She worked in a defense plant in California before and during World War II. She was a homemaker living in Packwood since 1945.

Mrs. SASSEEN was active in Linby Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star in Richland for many years.

Survivors include one son, John SASSEEN and wife Mary of Arlington, Texas; four daughters, Sandy VOGEL of Indianola, Donna SASSEEN of Iowa City, Debbie WONDERLICH and husband Randy of Des Moines and Marty CHANDLER and husband Virgil of Packwood; two stepdaughters, Joyce BROWN and husband Dale of Jackson, Mo., and Janet FARRIER and husband Merle of Brighton; 16 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Kay BOOK of Packwood.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Thelma HADLEY, Audrey HILL, Helen Terrance VROMAN, LaVon TUTTLE and an infant; and one son-in-law, Roger VOGEL.
