LIFE OF JOSEPH BRADLEY.

Joseph BRADLEY was born in Albany county, New York, in 1844, of New England parentage. At the age of 18 he went into the Union army. His term of service was short, being discharged because of illness. In 1866 he came to Iowa and this has been his home since then.

In 1870 he returned to New York and married Elda WILLSEY of Central Ridge. Two daughters were born to them, Matie dying in infancy, the other, Mrs. Wilson REED, together with the wife, surviving.

He is well known to all the older residents of Jefferson conty (sic. county), for he has been identified with the business interests of Fairfield for nearly fifty years. In the store and among all his friends he was known as Uncle Joe.

His family traditions were for honor and uprightness and he has upheld them all his life.

------
Transcriber note: The 1930's WPA listings for Jefferson County lists this Joseph BRADLEY as having died "5-9-1918". Likely a WPA transcriber converted the month dates to numbers, and someone then mis-transcribed the 7 (July) for a 5 (May), leading to an incorrect transcription. The newspaper obituary and subsequent notice were found to have been published on July 9th and 10th, 1918, contemporary to his death.

Joseph BRADLEY was buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, Iowa in Old.P.160 on July 11, 1918. Daughter Mattie was buried there first on July 15, 1872. Elda BRADLEY died and was buried in this plot in 1927.

Daughter Flora Belle BRADLEY married Wilson REED and they are also buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, Iowa (Old.P.184).
