CARRIS, Bette -- Bette CARRIS, 88, of Madera, Calif., formerly of Packwood, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at her son's home in Madera.

No service is planned in accordance with Mrs. CARRIS' wishes. She has been cremated and will be buried next to her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hinds Hospice at 1616 W. Shaw Ave., Suite A-5, Fresno, CA 93711-3513, or online at www.hindshospice.org.

Gould Funeral Home of Richland is assisting with local arrangements.

Mrs. CARRIS was born March 16, 1921, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Hazel SCHMIDT MAYER. She married Keith CARRIS June 4, 1939, in Kirksville, Mo. They divorced in 1971.

Mrs. CARRIS grew up in Richland, graduated from Richland High School in 1938 and attended Washington Junior College in Washington, Iowa, for one year. She lived in the Richland and Packwood area for 82 years. After breaking her hip in 2003, she moved to California to live with her son Jon. She was a homemaker and had worked for more than 13 years at Dickey's Prairie Home Restaurant as a pastry chef.

Mrs. CARRIS had been a member of Order of the Eastern Star for many years.

She enjoyed fishing and sewing and made many wedding and prom dresses for friends and neighbors.

Survivors include one daughter, Kay HADLEY and husband Wayne of Packwood; two sons, Ron CARRIS of Aliso Viejo, Calif., and Jon CARRIS and wife Jan of Madera, Calif.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Mary DEAL of Vidalia, La.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Joan JANSEN.
