CHARLES A. COPELAND DIES ENROUTE HERE

Charles A. Copeland, well known resident in this community, passed away suddenly last Thursday, Nov. 23, at Clovis, New Mexico. He was enroute from Clarksdale, Arizona, accompanied by a daughter, Mrs. Ed Birgen of Clarksdale, when death overtook him.

Mr. Copeland had been visiting for several months at the Birgen home in Arizona. The body arrived in Batavia, shortly after midnight Sunday, and was removed to the Davidson Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the M.E. Church, Rev. J. E. Matheny officiating and burial was in the Batavia Cemetery.

The deceased is survived by five daughters, Mrs. J. E. Lewis, of Batavia, Mrs. Venice Gable of Des Moines, Mrs. Mayme Emery of Ottumwa, Mrs. Ed Birgen of Clarksdale, Arizona, Mrs. Esther Pickering of Leon, one son Orville of Blakesburg, and a brother W. L. Copeland of Batavia.

Charles A. Copeland was a policeman in Batavia at one point. He was married to Rhoda Ellen Allen, daughter of J. M. Allen & Teresa Harmon.
His father was James Lewis Copeland of Shelby Co., Indiana and his mother was Eliza Jane Means.
