JANNINGS, Larry D. -- Larry D. JANNINGS, 74, of Mount Pleasant, died Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

A funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Dan Spray officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Green Glade Cemetery in Farmington.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the memorial chapel.

A memorial has been established to Camp Nauvoo.

Mr. JANNINGS was born Oct. 8, 1935, in Farmington, the son of William Dale and Ruth Elizabeth MUNFORD JANNINGS. He married Janet NOFTSGER Sept. 2, 1956, in Creston. They later divorced. He married Bonnie STUTZMAN SMITH Feb. 17, 1989, in Chariton.

Mr. JANNINGS spent his formative years in Farmington and was a 1954 graduate of Keokuk High School. He enrolled in Graceland College and then graduated from Northwest Missouri State College with a degree in secondary education. He began his teaching career in Hopkins, Mo. In 1962, he began teaching at Creston High School, where he also was a class sponsor, helped organize proms and directed theatrical productions. In 1979, he taught at Chariton High School and continued teaching there until his retirement in 1991. He continued to substitute teach after his retirement. He owned and operated LBJ Antiques in Mount Pleasant and also worked for the REM Company.

Mr. JANNINGS was a former pastor of Community of Christ Church in Creston and Mount Pleasant, where he worked with youth groups and church camps. He was president of the Twin Lakes Golf & Country Club in Winfield and had served on the Lockridge City Council.

Mr. JANNINGS enjoyed sports, coaching and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Angela JANDREY and husband Dennis of Mount Pleasant, Alisa COLLIER of Warrensburg, Mo., and Andrea MEANS and husband Kevin of LaVista, Neb.; two stepsons, Jason SMITH and wife Debbie and Doug SMITH and wife Diana, all of Mount Pleasant; one brother, Steve JANNINGS of St. Joseph, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David JANNINGS.
