HAMLETT, Jo F. -- Jo F. HAMLETT, 76, of Mount Sterling, died at 1:45 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at Van Buren Good Samaritan Hospice in Keosauqua.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Larry Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Harness Cemetery in rural Mount Sterling.

Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials to Mount Sterling Betterment Association may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at 2210 190th St., Donnellson 52625.

Mr. HAMLETT was born Oct. 28, 1933, in Mount Sterling, the son of Arthur K. and Marjorie HUFF HAMLETT. He had been married and divorced.

Mr. HAMLETT graduated from Keosauqua High School and Iowa State University. He was a salesman for Proctor & Gamble Co. in Illinois, Missouri and Iowa. He retired to a farm near Mexico, Mo., where he was a cattle buyer and feed and seed salesman. He moved back to Mount Sterling in 1995.

Mr. HAMLETT had served as mayor and councilman in Mount Sterling and had been involved with the Mount Sterling Betterment Association. He had recently spearheaded a campaign and donated to pave the city's Main Street. He reported Mount Sterling's news to area newspapers and promoted Mount Sterling as a town with no liars.

Mr. HAMLETT was a veteran of the United States Army.

He was a fan of Van Buren sports teams.

Survivors include five stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Joyce THOMAS.
