SCHINDLER, Sylvia MICKA -- Sylvia MICKA SCHINDLER, 93, of fairfield, IA, died Sunday, November 15, at Parkview Care Center. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 18th at 4:00 PM at Behner Funeral Home with Reverend Mark Brase officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held before the service at 2:30 P.M. Burial will be on Thursday, November 19th at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace, IL.

Sylvia was born at home on December 13, 1915 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Frank and Marie MATEJKA MICKA. While she was still in high school, she worked to support her family during the Great Depression. She graduated from J. Sterling Morton High School in 1934.

She met Carl Albert SCHINDLER at a picnic on Lake Michigan and married him on June 18, 1938, in Berwyn, IL. She studied business at a junior college and worked as a secretary in downtown Chicago. She and Al lived in Elmhurst, IL for 30 years, until moving to Fairfield in 1987.

Sylvia had many hobbies and interests, including playing the violin and listening to classical music. She was also active in her church, taught 3rd grade Sunday School, and was a Cub Scout den mother. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and knitting. She was always eager to share her love of reading and the arts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Vera and her husband Al.

Survivors include her daughter Joyce SCHINDLER of Fairfield, son Richard (June) SCHINDLER of Fairfield and granddaughters Melinda and Suzannah.
